Frame 01 · The reveal

A print rising out of the tray.

Today’s photo starts as a ghost on blank paper: pale, soft and gray. Every guess develops it further — more density, more detail, and at last full color.

Frame 02 · How to play

Four questions. Six guesses.

Answer what you can and make a guess. Right answers lock in, the rest get a hint, and the photo develops a little more.

  1. 1

    When?

Slide to the year you think it was taken. Hints tell you if you’re too early, too late or close.

  2. 2

    Where?

Drop a pin on the map. Get within 100 miles and you’ve found it — the closer, the bigger the bonus.

  3. 3

    What?

A beach, a birthday cake, a ferris wheel? Pick what the photo shows from four choices.

  4. 4

    Who?

How many people are in it? No people in the picture? Then judge how far away the subject was.

Frame 03 · Features

A darkroom full of memories

A thoughtful daily ritual that turns a camera roll you never scroll back into a game.

  • A new puzzle every day

One photo a day, numbered like a roll of film, so everyone plays at the same pace.

  • Made from your library

Every puzzle is one of your own photos — at least 30 days old, so there’s always something to rediscover.

  • Darkroom reveal

The picture rises out of blank paper in a developer tray, gaining density, sharpness and finally color.

  • Smart picks

“On This Day” anniversaries come up far more often. Screenshots, receipts and documents never do.

  • Framed finale

The finished photo appears in a polished metal frame and beveled mat, colored to suit the picture.

  • Points & streaks

Solve in fewer guesses for more points, earn a bonus for a close pin, and keep your daily streak alive.

  • Spoiler-free sharing

Share colored squares, not your photo. No place names or dates ever leave the app.

  • Recent filmstrip

Your last ten puzzles sit on a strip of 35 mm film. Open any frame to see that day’s photo again.

  • Fix it, play again

If the app gets a subject wrong, correct it — it learns for that photo, and you earn a bonus puzzle.

  • Title your memories

Name a photo you’ve rediscovered and the title is saved into the photo itself in your library.

  • Favorites only

Keep puzzles to your best shots by limiting them to the photos you’ve marked as Favorites.

  • Private by design

Everything runs on your device. No accounts, no ads, no tracking, and no photo ever uploaded.

Frame 05 · Mac & iPad

Made for the big screen, too.

On iPad and Mac the developing photo fills one side and the questions sit beside it, so you can study every detail as the picture clears. On the Mac, the map opens in a roomy sheet with place search right in the toolbar.

Your photos never leave your device.

Daily Exposure chooses each photo and works out what’s in it right on your iPhone, iPad or Mac. No accounts, no cloud, no ads and no tracking.

Questions

Good to know

What is Daily Exposure?

A daily puzzle made from your own photo library. Each day Daily Exposure picks one of your photos and hides it in a darkroom developer tray. You guess when it was taken, where, what it shows and who is in it — and with every guess the picture develops a little more, until it appears in full color in a frame.

It’s a fun way to rediscover memories you’d forgotten you had.

How does it choose the photo?

Daily Exposure only uses photos that are more than 30 days old, and it skips screenshots and pictures of documents, receipts, whiteboards and charts. Photos with a location and your Favorites are a little more likely to come up, and “On This Day” anniversaries far more so.

It also avoids using the same place twice within two weeks, and never repeats a photo until every other one has had its turn.

The “What” answer was wrong. Can I fix it?

Yes. The subject is worked out on your device, and sometimes it guesses wrong. After the puzzle, choose Answer wrong? Correct it and pick the right subject, or type your own. The correction is saved for that photo and used the next time it comes up.

As a thank-you for fixing it, you get a bonus puzzle that day.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. Photos never leave your device. Choosing the photo and working out what’s in it all happen on your iPhone, iPad or Mac. Daily Exposure has no accounts, no ads and no tracking. See the privacy policy for details.
